VH1 knows a winner when it sees it, and when the network's hip-hop TV drama The Breaks premiered in January, it was a ratings and social media success.
The movie was based on Dan Charnas' best-selling book, The Big Payback: The History of the Business of Hip-Hop. After a finally tally, it was rated as the No. 2 original cable movie of the year among two key demographics, according to the Hollywood Reporter. So it's no shock that Viacom, the owner of VH1, has now decided to make it a full series.
The movie starred Wood Harris (The Wire), Mack (Tristan) Wilds (90210), Afton Williamson (Banshee), David Call (Gossip Girl), Antoine Harris (Ballers) and Method Man, and the Hollywood Reporter says that "most are expected to return for the series."
The number of episodes and a premiere date for the series have not been announced, but one thing's for sure: Viacom knows that fans of the movie and hip-hop are sure to tune in.
