R&B singer Sevyn Streeter never got to perform the national anthem at the Philadelphia 76ers game Wednesday night, and it was because the jersey she was wearing read, “We Matter.”

The singer posted an Instagram video to let people know why she wasn't performing:

Of course, people on social media weren't pleased at all with the decision:

The front office of the 76ers issued a statement about the canceled performance:

The Philadelphia 76ers organization encourages meaningful actions to drive social change. We use our games to bring people together, to build trust and to strengthen our communities. As we move from symbolic gestures to action, we will continue to leverage our platform to positively impact our community.

Sixers guard Gerald Henderson said he figured something was going on when a cheerleader performed the anthem.

"There's a lot going on man," Henderson said. "People care about these things that are happening, as well as they should. And they are going to express themselves in different ways. … People are trying to make statements, I guess."
