Brooklyn, N.Y., rapper and actor Yasiin Bey, commonly known as Mos Def, was arrested at the Cape Town International Airport in South Africa for producing an "unrecognized world passport" as he was trying to leave the country, ABC News reports.
A South African official said that Bey came to South Africa in 2013 with a U.S. passport and a visitor's permit. He reportedly overstayed the permit by 2014, violating local immigration laws.
Bey appeared before a South African court and received a court order banning him from entering South Africa for five years, although he may appeal that order, the South African official explained. He has 14 days to leave the country.
According to ABC News, Bey has been living in Cape Town since 2013.
