In today’s “Out of the fire, into the frying pan” news, a group of firefighters in England are now enjoying the fruits of their labor, in the form of sausage, after rescuing piglets from a fire.
In February, a fire ripped through a farm in Milton Lilbourne, Wiltshire, but firefighters were able to rescue 18 piglets. Now they’re enjoying the piglets they saved, for breakfast, lunch and dinner, after they were slaughtered and made into sausage.
According to the Times, Rachel Rivers, the owner of the farm, wanted to reward the firefighters with a tasty treat, but didn’t slaughter the piglets immediately because they were too young to be noshed on.
“I wanted to thank [the firefighters],” she said. “I promised them at the time I’d bring down some sausages for them, which they were all pleased about.”
Rivers isn’t paying attention to any criticism she’s received about gifting the sausages because she says the pigs were born to be eaten. And the firefighters who saved the tasty piglets said that they were glad to “sample the fruits of [their] labor.”
I guess bacon was out of the question?
