As the resident Cardi B stan here at The Root, I fully understand that not everyone is here for her, and not everyone has an appreciation for her style.

It comes with the territory. There will always be someone who has something negative to say about a star, no matter what it is. For the most part, our faves brush it off and ignore it, but there are times when they can’t help but clap back, and for Cardi, today was one of those days.

An Instagram user hopped into the comments of a post to tell Cardi that they believed her record label, Atlantic, bought her career for her. Cardi, who said she is sick of people trying to discredit her, took time out of her day to respond to said commenter and to let them know how hard she has worked to get to where she is today.

“Let me tell you something,” Cardi wrote. “When I first sign[ed] to Atlantic I was convinces [sic] I was going to blow up quickly. I put out LICK and I didn’t get the results I wanted. I was going to Atlantic with a tantrum like why my song not getting AirPlay? Why my record not doing good? And they couldn’t help and told me if the song not it, it ain’t it. I was discourage ass [sic] fuck! I’m thankful for Bodak Yellow cause it had people and even the label believe in me.”

Cardi goes on to explain that you can’t buy the public or the attention that she got after releasing her first big hit. She ends her rant by saying she is not going to let anyone try to make her feel like she hasn’t earned the success she is experiencing right now.

I wholeheartedly agree. I first became acquainted with Cardi when she did her turn on Love and Hip Hop. Never forget the epic read she gave Peter Gunz on the reunion show that time.

She has worked hard to get to where she is, and everyone knows it. She’s done it all while remaining true to herself, and everyone knows that as well. You have to give credit where credit is due.
