Because he's Denzel Washington, a brilliant actor, when he decided to add directing to his résumé, he skipped television and went straight to films (Antwone Fisher and The Great Debaters). Now, though, according to TVLine, the Academy Award winner is circling back and will be directing an episode of Grey's Anatomy.

Washington's choice of the show make sense, TVLine explains, since he's very good friends with one of the show's executive producers and directors, Debbie Allen.

Washington will be directing this season's ninth episode, which will begin production later this month.

He's probably blowing the dust off his directorial chops to gear up for the 10 shows he'll be producing for HBO over the next few years. First up: He's starring in and directing the television adaptation of Fences. Production for that begins next spring.
