Yeah, let’s make a drink that makes light of people getting drugged. That’s exactly what the folks behind Washington, D.C.’s newest pop-up/fad/bar Diet Starts Monday did when they introduced their “Pill Cosby” tequila drink.
The cocktail, complete with empty pill capsules, was an ode to Bill Cosby’s drugging and rape allegations. Sure, the bar thought it was being witty, which was apparent from comments co-founder Davin Gentry made to Washingtonian about the drink: “We took it at first as a funny name.”
The pop-up bar, which is located on the U Street corridor, has other drinks named after Taraji P. Henson and Dave Chappelle—both D.C. natives—but of course, those drinks don’t have a rape connotation.
The backlash was swift. The bar pulled the Pill Cosby and issued an apology to anyone who was offended, of course:
