In April, Mattel launched its Sheroes collection of Barbies, which celebrates women who have inspired girls by breaking boundaries. Included in the collection was a doll depicting Ava DuVernay, director of the critically acclaimed film Selma.
Just in time for the holiday season, DuVernay’s doll will go on sale Monday and can be purchased on the Barbie Collection site. The doll wasn’t originally going to be mass-produced, but DuVernay’s fans spoke and Mattel listened.
On Sunday, DuVernay tweeted the good news and let folks know where the proceeds will end up:
You can only imagine how many kids and adults will be the proud owners of a DuVernay Barbie!
