Danièle Watts and her boyfriend, Brian Lucas’, lives may just get a little more complicated. On Thursday, a judge ruled Watts and Lucas must both submit to a jail booking surrounding their misdemeanor lewd conduct charges.

Watts, 28, says she was treated unfairly by cops who responded to a call alleging she was having sex with Lucas in a parked car in Studio City, Calif.  When police asked for her identification, she declined and walked away, but ended up being handcuffed and detained as Lucas watched.

“Today I was handcuffed and detained by [two] police officers from the Studio City Police Department after refusing to agree that I had done something wrong by showing affection, fully clothed, in a public place,” she wrote on Facebook on Sept. 11.

Police stated that Watts was detained because she refused to cooperate, and Watts claimed otherwise.

“I end up in handcuffs just because I don’t say yes to a cop who’s looking at me like I’m a prostitute,” she said.

In an interview with the New York Daily News, Watts and Lucas’ attorney Louis Shapiro stated that his clients would comply with the booking.

“They maintain their innocence. They’re very confident in their position,” Shapiro told the news site. “At this point they don’t plan on negotiating with prosecutors. They will fight this.”

“There won’t be any resistance to booking,” Shapiro said.

Shapiro also noted that his client was frustrated because she had been stopped previously and her actions were a culmination of those events.
