TV Host Steve Harvey met with President-elect Donald Trump for a meeting at Trump Tower in New York City on Friday and took to Twitter to explain why.
The host of Family Feud and The Steve Harvey Show said in his Twitter statement that he was asked by President Barack Obama to meet with Trump “in order to move our country forward.”
“Our president (Obama) asked that all of us sit down and talk to one another in order to move our country forward,” Harvey wrote. “The transition teams on both sides asked me to meet and I’m glad I did.”
“I found him in our meeting both congenial and sincere,” Harvey continued. “Trump wants to help with the situations in the inner cities so he immediately got Dr. Ben Carson phone to put us together to begin dialog in looking at programs and housing to help our inner cities and he’s very open to my mentoring efforts across the country.”
Oh? So Steve Harvey—game show host, talk show host, King of Comedy, adulterous-relationship expert, judge of the attractiveness (or lack thereof) of Asian men—is now undersecretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development alongside Ben “Clueless” Carson? GOT IT.
I guess it makes sense. If a failed businessman and the host of The Apprentice is qualified to run our country, surely Pimp-Suit Chompers is qualified to help with HUD.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Trump tapped Harvey to help bring change to Chicago and other inner cities.
“He’s a great friend of ours,” the president-elect told reporters. “Everybody knows Steve Harvey. Everyone having fun? Steve just came up to say hello.”
As the Sun-Times notes, Harvey endorsed Hillary Clinton for president and came under fire over allegations that his staff provided her with advance questions before an interview on his radio show in February.
Harvey told reporters that Trump introduced him to Carson, and they discussed help for inner cities. Reporters asked if Chicago was one of the cities he would be helping.
“Chicago is definitely one,” Harvey said. “Another one they want to start with as a target is Detroit. Ben Carson expressed that because quite naturally, he is from Detroit. I want to do something with all of the major inner cities to see if we can bring about some change and help some of these young people out. And so that’s why I’m here, and it was a successful meeting. And he seemed really sincere.”
Harvey was rather pleased with himself and Trump at the end of it all, and he seemed to genuinely believe that Trump wants to help the inner city, even as the GOP is working overtime to take affordable health care away from millions of Americans who might otherwise perish without it.
“I walked away feeling like I had just talked with a man who genuinely wants to make a difference in this area,” Harvey wrote on Twitter. “I feel that something really great could come out of this ... I would sit with him anytime.”
